PFAS Detection, Measurement and Treatment
Expert on PFAS Destruction to Speak at Air and Waste Management Conference.
Local environmental scientist Dr. Philip H Taylor, PhD is one of the countries leading experts in thermal destruction of PFAS. Through his thirty-five year research career, he has developed promising methods in a bench scale model system which can quickly and efficiently identify the appropriate combustion conditions to completely destroy PFAS and any products of incomplete combustion.
The theme of the AWMA conference is The Science of PFAS: Transforming Research into Action. This meeting will be November 8-10th in Durham, NC (https://www.awma.org/pfas). One of the sessions will focus on traditional treatment methods such as incineration as well as emerging technologies. Dr. Taylor will report on the status of his research on the use of thermal techniques to destroy PFAS compounds. This presentation will include where PFAS compounds fit into the incinerability index and a discussion of potential products of incomplete destruction.
Recent advisories issued by the Environmental Protection Agency pertaining to drinking water containing “forever chemicals” such as PFAS are raising concern among manufacturing companies and water treatment facilities alike to protect human health, especially in economically challenged populations. Pending legislation, based upon recent scientific findings and emerging technology, will demand much more stringent requirements to prevent PFAS from entering the environment.

About the PFAS T3
P. Taylor & Associates has a PFAS Test and Treatment Technique to evaluate incineration conditions required to completely destroy a waste stream containing PFAS. This bench-scale test mimics the conditions defined by the user and provides this service at a fraction of the cost of a full-scale test. This test can be conducted before a compliance test to provide data supporting the conditions to be used in the compliance test. This data provides a high level of confidence that the compliance test will be successful.
The service offers determination of the combustion conditions required for the complete destruction of PFAS under user-defined conditions. The service can also evaluate different combustion conditions in a cost-effective manner. The service offers a permanent and long-term solution for the removal of PFAS from the environment. The service can be used as a self-test or it can be performed in an independent laboratory to provide an unbiased third party evaluation. The service is a customizable solution to the need for complete destruction of PFAS “Forever Chemicals”.
The users of this service include commercials facilities generating PFAS as a waste stream, wastewater utilities, waste to energy commercial units, and hazardous waste environmental service companies. Medical waste incinerators and cement kilns burning hazardous waste are in additional potential users.
The service is contracted through P. Taylor & Associates.
